2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Competing in the pickup truck market can be pretty tough with all the choices available. To combat this, Chevrolet gave the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD trucks a boost in power and towing capability. Going as high as 18,000 pounds for towing for the Silverado 2500HD and 23,000 pounds for the Silverado 3500HD. That’s some serious towing power. With a new diesel engine option, this kind of power can be put under the hood of any 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD.

Like most pickup trucks today, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is available in multiple configurations. There is a 3-passenger regular sized cab, available to the WT and LT trims; a 6-passenger double-sized cab, available to the WT, LT, and LTZ trims; and a 6-passenger crew cab, available to all trims. There are also two drivetrains, two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Lastly, there are two bed options, an long box and a standard box.

Engine Types

There are two engines available on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The standard on all trims is a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine with sequential fuel injection (SFI), a high-performance version of fuel injection, and variable valve timing technology, a process of altering the intake and exhaust of fuel and air into and out of the engine’s cylinders. This allows the engine to generate up to 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Another engine is available, a Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 engine capable of 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.

Towing Capacity

When it comes to towing, it’s a pretty simple clean cut between engines. If looking to tow around 14,000 pounds, then consumers will do fine with the standard Vortex engine, able to tow up to 14,800 pounds. If looking for more, the Duramax engine boasts a total of 18,100 pounds. Surprising what a turbo diesel engine can do for a truck’s towing capacity.
