2017 Chevrolet Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox has been doing so well lately that there really is no reason to change a good thing. It’s affordable, it has a ton of rear-passenger space, and its sales are doing a lot better compared to some of the competition in the SUV market. For a compact SUV, the Equinox is a key player in the auto world.
3.6-liter V6 SIDI
Available in two drivetrains, all-wheel drive (AWD) or front-wheel drive (FWD), the 2017 Chevy Equinox also has two engine options. The standard engine across the four Equinox trims is a 2.4-liter DOHC SIDI engine. It generates 182-horsepower, and when the vehicle is equipped with front-wheel drive, the Equinox has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Buyers also have the option of upgrading to a larger 3.6-liter V6 SIDI when choosing the Equinox LT or Premier trims with all-wheel drive. This engine generates up to 301-horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque. With this engine and drivetrain combination, the fuel economy lands at 20/28 mpg city/highway.
The “DOHC” stands for “dual overhead camshaft”, a special design of the air/fuel intake/exhaust of an engine’s cylinders. Unlike a single overhead camshaft (SOHC), some of the tension is relieved in a DOHC, optimizing engine performance. “SIDI” stands for spark ignition direct injection, also known as gasoline direct injection (GDI). With SIDI the gasoline is highly pressurized and injected directly into the cylinder combustion chambers; this improves fuel economy and power output.
The all-wheel drivetrain option is available on three Equinox trims, the Equinox LS, Premier, and LT. AWD is usually considered helpful in all types of weather, and it is particularly helpful in slippery and icy road conditions because torque is delivered to all four wheels. The extra torque provides extra traction and equal drive to all four corners. The transmission for all four trims in either drivetrain is a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 Chevy Equinox is an athletic-looking SUV that is great for the city and long road trips because it isn’t too big for tight city streets but is also surprisingly spacious inside. The Equinox L and LS trims come standard with power adjustable mirrors, and the Equinox LT and Premier trims come standard with power heated mirrors.
The Equinox LT and Premier also have luggage rack side rails, which may prove valuable for carrying extra cargo. They are also the only trims with the option of a power sunroof available and deep-tinted glass (standard). In terms of wheels, the 2017 Chevy Equinox rides on 17- or 18-inch wheels. Be sure to check out the various packages available.
There are many packages available for the interior worth a look for the Equinox LT and Premier trims. In all models are front bucket seats, with premium cloth as the seating trim. Perforated leather heated seats are available on the Equinox LT, but are standard on the Equinox Premier; the same goes for the option of a leather wrapped steering wheel.
For convenience, automatic climate control is an option on the Equinox LT trim, standard on the Equinox Premier. The Equinox Premier trim also comes with a rearview self-dimming mirror and a rear cargo net with a cover. A rear vision camera is a standard on all Equinox trims.
Interior, Tech and Entertainment
In terms of entertainment and technology, a six-speaker system comes standard with the ability to upgrade to a Pioneer premium audio system on the Equinox LT and Premier trims. Many other upgrades come standard on these high-end trims as well, such as SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Chevrolet MyLink, featuring full GPS navigation. Available on select trims is built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi and Siri Eyes Free.
Safety Features and Warranty
Six airbags are positioned throughout all 2017 Chevy Equinox trims, and they offer protection for all passengers and the driver. Driver Confidence Packages that feature Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Departure Warning should all be checked out for optimum advanced safety. Rear park assist is an available option for the Equinox LT and Premier trims; remote keyless entry is standard on both.
