Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has been quite the busy automaker this year, 2019, with the release of the new Mi-TECH at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, along with the xAUTO from sibling company Mitsubishi Electric, and a recent contract between MMC and MaaS Global Oy for spreading global mobility solutions. Just before the end of 2019, Mitsubishi Motors has one more surprise with a newly redesigned Mitsubishi Mirage. Teased in early November with the image above, the new 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage debuted in Thailand and will shortly make its way to the states – most likely.
The 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage no longer looks like a crossover that turned out to be the ugly duckling of the bunch. Gaining its own look and style, the new hatchback looks a little more square in the front but then smooths out towards the bust of the vehicle. The length of the Mirage still does stretch a bit into compact crossover territory but with the new look of the rear as well, tight and a with a cool lip overhang, this is definitely a new vehicle we’re looking at.
Starting with that facelift, the 2020 Mirage hatchback has a more compact, sharper, and more dynamic exterior that draws the eye towards the front fascia. Adopting the new Dynamic Shield that stands as the new look of Mitsubishi Motors models, lines sweep outward from the nose of the vehicle, almost as if to hug it, with a robust rectangular grille that gives the whole face the look of a battering ram. Aligning with angular headlights, this is one mean mug to see in the rearview mirror.
Overall, the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage has a more stable look to it, and here’s hoping it drives like it. The days of Mitsubishi Motors rally cars have an encore humming across the fandom, and it would be a shame if a Mitsubishi sports car were to never happen again. Surely it wouldn’t be the Mitsubishi Mirage, but this new design could hint at future driving and engineering. There is no word on the powertrain at this time.
The new Mitsubishi Mirage will be offered in a new, brilliant White Diamond body color that gives the vehicle a personal shine. Also being added to the color palette for the Mirage is a new, bright and fresh Sand Yellow. With all these new additions, a newly designed hatchback is not complete without newly designed wheels. The 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with an interesting design. They utilize a two-tone diamond-cut styling for a strong finish.
Embracing some of the sports car prayers, upper-trim levels of the Mitsubishi Mirage will come with a sporty interior, consisting of a special seat design, fabric/synthetic leather combination upholstery, and the addition of piping and stitching to the seat sides. The interior is so far a render, no one has sat the new model yet.
The new 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage is to be on display at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2019 to be held on November 28, 2019, and we’ll know more then. Aside from a newly adopted Smartphone Display Audio (SDA) system with a 7-inch display for better clarity that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, that’s all we know about the new 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage for now.
