Kia Puts New Mild Hybrid System into 2021 Kia Rio

miami-lakes-kia-2021-kia-rio-mild-hybrid

Kia Motors is working on a lot of different things as the automaker comes swinging back after pausing production during what could have been called a global lockdown during the Coronavirus pandemic. Looking to produce all sorts of new vehicles, like purpose-built vehicles, new sedans, and maybe even micro electric vehicles (EVs), the automaker is getting busy with new concepts and ideas. Nevertheless, Kia Motors still has a strong lineup, and the 2021 Kia Rio was recently revealed, showing off a new fresh style and a mild-hybrid powertrain. Could this be the diesel 48v mild-hybrid powertrain discussed back in May 2018?

It’s been some time since we heard about the diesel 48v mild-hybrid powertrain. Also known as the EcoDynamics+ powertrain, Kia Motors was supposed to put this into the Kia Sportage but it doesn’t seem like the powertrain made it into the model. We thought the idea was scrapped, but the news about the new Kia Rio coming with a mild-hybrid powertrain definitely shines some hope on more hybrid options coming to the Kia Motors lineup, as well as sedans.

Kia Motors to Produce Micro EVs

miami-lakes-kia-2020-world-car-awards

Does anyone remember Smart cars? The automotive brand that made two-seaters with just enough cargo space for one person and the necessities. There are some people who still drive them, but they’re very rare. Smart cars are no longer solder in the USA, they just didn’t really fit with the whole four-door five-seater-plus demographic. It’s odd, because as we mentioned last week, how many people drive a crossover or SUV and have more than two people in the vehicle at a time? Kia Motors is shifting its focus to sedans because of that reason, and the automaker may even double down on shrinking the literal size of its lineup with micro electric vehicles (EVs).

Kia Motors is coming back swinging after the pause in production during a global shutdown and stay-at-home order during the Coronavirus pandemic. Although COVID-19 is said to last through the year and come in waves, the economy needs to bounce back sooner or later, and that means industries like the auto industry need to get back to work. Even so, every week, Kia Motors has something new to push the automaker ahead – purpose-built vehicle production, a new 800-volt EV battery system to challenge the Porsche Taycan, a not-so-wallet-friendly option.

In fact, Kia Motors is working to produce ultra-compact electric cars. This seems to be a small niche that few automakers are investing in, with Smart and Citroen (who?) being the major producers at the time. Kia Motors’ Europe Chief Operating Officer, Emilio Herrera, was recently quoted by AutoExpress during an interview about the upcoming lineup and the new micro EVs that will be coming from the automaker. Much of the reasoning behind this new line of vehicles is a response to the Coronavirus outbreak and consumers wanting more private transportation.

Kia Motors Invests in New 800-volt Battery System for EVs

miami-lakes-kia-futuron-ev-charging

Kia Motors has reopened for business and is steadily starting manufacturing plants back up with safety measures in place. Optimistic about the rest of the year and years to come, Kia Motors has already begun to follow through with its Plan S Strategy, despite the shortcomings caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. When Kia announced the Plan S Strategy in January, the automaker had many large goals and a two-track plan – Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs). Already working towards PBVs with HMG, Kia Motors has announced two new upcoming EVs in the coming years to meet their goal of releasing 11 EVs by 2025, starting with a dedicated model in 2021. Whether it’s the Kia Futuron teased prior or another vehicle this new EV from Kia Motors has impressive specs.

When first teased, the Kia Futuron concept was one of the first EVs Kia Motors was to release. With a fresh design that also gave a futuristic feel to it with a geometric patchwork of matrix LED lighting, wide stance, and long wheelbase, it doesn’t look like your typical EV. Although a powertrain has yet to be released, we have already received some data on the capabilities of this EV, able to drive about 300 miles, give or take with regenerative braking, and can charge up in less than 20 minutes.

Will Kia Motors Shift Focus to Sedans?

miami-lakes-kia-motors-sedans

Kia Motors is getting back up and running with an optimistic view of the auto market and already working towards new ventures with Kia and HMG producing purpose-built vehicles (PBVs). The most recent and surprising news from the overseas automaker is a declaration of new plans to fill out one of the car segments in its vast lineup of vehicles. Kia Motors may have seen a lot of great success with the Kia Telluride SUV and the Kia Seltos compact SUV, but despite that, sedans are still in the cards. Not surprising, this has sparked quite the internet debate.

We at Miami Lakes Automall Kia can’t throw our hat in the ring, but me personally, I say, “Yes.” Sedans are great. Unless the head of a family or always travelling with a group of people, a four-door five-seater is more than enough, and not many consumers use all that space anyway. Look around the next time you’re on the road and take note of how many people are in these five-to-seven passenger cars and how many of them actually have more than one or two people, driver included.

Kia Seltos is Named on Autotrader’s 10 Best Cars for Recent College Graduates 2020 List

miami-lakes-automall-kia-seltos-college

At first, it wasn’t clear whether or not the Kia Seltos, the compact SUV from Kia Motors, would have a global release following its debut. Many automakers tend to release vehicles only in their home market (South Korea for Kia) or in international markets with different regulations and standards. First released in India, then Australia, the Kia Seltos quickly became a hit overseas. So much so, the Kia Seltos came to America. The 2020 Kia Seltos has amazing features, and just the other day, Autotrader has recognized Kia Seltos and placed it on it’s “10 Best Cars for Recent College Graduates” list. We know with the current state of the world, many graduates are missing out on graduation, a milestone that will never come again. What better way to cheer up a college grad with a new set of wheels once people are out and about?

“Kia’s new Seltos SUV has exactly what grads will be looking for in a car that transports them to the next phase of life…Kia’s super-long warranty, low price and generous standard features make the Seltos a small SUV that can weather just about any storm. We like that all-wheel drive is standard on nearly every model and that the overall footprint is small, but the interior feels very spacious.” – Brian Moody, executive editor for Autotrader

To be placed on Autotrader’s “10 Best Cars for Recent College Graduates in 2020” list, the Kia Seltos impressed editors with its combination of elegance and upscale feel while also having a rugged feel to it that gives it a refined style like no other. Well-engineered as a sports utility vehicle, it’s not too big, but can handle a variety of lifestyles and adventures. Spacious and offering great tech options, the interior comes with reclining rear seat functionality for storing cargo, available leather-wrapped steering wheel for a little more comfort on long drives, and an available 10.25-inch high-resolution color touchscreen with an available 8-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Kia Motors and HMG to Spearhead PBV Production

miami-lakes-kia-hmb-pbv

Kia Motors, part of the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) will be seeing a lot of interesting changes in the coming years. Even with European Kia Chief Operating Officer Emilio Herrera optimistic about future sales, and the future of the company, we may see a pause in some of the larger endeavors, like the MoceanLab opened up in Los Angeles, California, U.S., and the Air Taxi concept debuted at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, a shared endeavor between Kia Motors, Hyundai Motors, and Uber. Still, before all of this came to pass, Kia Motors launched a Plan S Strategy, and by golly, it’s on like Donkey Kong!

Fueled by South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Co., amongst plans for future vehicle design and production, a market ripe with possibility is quickly gaining attention. It’s the world of purpose-built vehicle (PBV) services, and HMG wants to get on the ground floor with a combined investment total of $81.5 billion – $49.8 trillion by Hyundai Motor and $23.6 trillion by Kia Motors – over the next six years. Kia Motors has already announced two new upcoming electric vehicles, following the path set out by their Plan S Strategy, but this train is running on two tracks. The PBV market was also announced as a part of Plan S, with designs ranging from self-driving pizza delivery vans to mobility hubs in various cities.

2021 Kia Stinger GT Refresh Spotted in Spy Shots

miami-lakes-kia-stinger-gt-spy-shots-refresh

It wasn’t that long ago we were talking about the Kia Stinger sports car getting a mid-cycle refresh. Although still fairly new, a performance car wasn’t what many would expect from Kia Motors, an automaker with a focus on safety and alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles. The Kia Stinger proved to be an award-winning vehicle, with the first few rounds of deliveries disappearing from dealership lots in days. This sports car was even faster and more affordable than many high-end luxury sports cars. We’re not sure what happened, but a refresh is in the mix, and tweaks for the new 2021 Kia Stinger GT are already popping up in spy shots.

Automakers are always tight-lipped when it comes to new and upcoming products. Not only does one want to avoid unnecessary competition with a new project but confirming many features and then not delivering is a sore-spot for consumers in the auto market. The 2020 Kia Telluride is a perfect example of that. When first greenlit as a concept, the Kia Telluride had oodles of cool technology. And yet, not much of that cool technology made it into the final Kia Telluride SUV, although the Telluride is clearly an award-winner of its own, having won the “Triple Crown of Automotive Awards” in 2019.

Kia Motors is Optimistic About Resuming Production

miami-lakes-kia-optimism-telluride

Kia Motors is optimistic, and having a little optimism isn’t bad in these trying times. Although the Coronavirus pandemic is still coming in waves throughout North America and the rest of the world, various automakers are taking the current downswing as a good omen. Various manufacturers are reopening for business to resume production, and a boom in sales is rapidly growing overseas. We’re not completely out of the woods, but many are hoping that we can start returning the world to normal by June or July, and some automakers are expecting sales to return to normal by no later than July 2020 (according to various interviews and reports).

This optimism might be fueled by recent good news about the trusty SUV, the Kia Telluride. The 2020 Kia Telluride and the 2020 Kia Soul EV won awards during the World Car Awards (WCA), with the Kia Telluride winning Car of the Year. Still going strong, the 2020 Kia Telluride was a large success when initially made available in 2019, with sales skyrocketing for Kia Motors. With many consumers out there who have been window shopping for a new vehicle once it’s safe to be out and about, Kia Motors is one automaker to keep tabs on, because there’s talk of a scrapper program.

Kia Motors to Release Mid-Cycle Refresh for 2021 Kia Stinger

miami-lakes-2021-Kia-Stinger-1

When the Kia Stinger sports car first came out, it truly seemed like the sports car of the decade. At the time, it was unheard of for Kia Motors to design a sports car, let alone a sports car with as much performance as the Kia Stinger. Reportedly able to surpass high-end and pricey sports car, the Kia Stinger GT is faster than the likes of Porsche Panamera, and more affordable! Having won many awards, the Kia Stinger was doing really well for itself. During the first round of deliveries, dealerships couldn’t keep units on the lot. Then suddenly, sales paused, and it wasn’t due to the current pandemic. Although only a few years old, the Kia Stinger may be set for a mid-cycle refresh in 2021.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps all those interested in a sports car from Kia Motors already purchased their Stinger – or, not enough sports car consumers thought the Kia Stinger delivered. The new motto by the automaker is to build “cars that drive as well as they look”. The Kia Stinger wowed consumers and media when it first arrived, catching the eye of anyone interested in high-performance. That feature, although able to outperform more expensive models, may still need a bit of a push, and that’s where the mid-cycle refresh comes in.

Kia Motors Announces Two New Upcoming Electrified Vehicles

miami-lakes-kia-futuron-concept-ev

Kia Motors is always an automaker that we like hearing about. Always working on some new car technology or an interesting concept, Kia Motors is one brand that keeps moving forward. Most recently, the automaker confirmed that it will be launching two completely new electrified vehicles within the next few years, and both will definitely have a U.S. launch. That’s exciting, seeing as how vehicles manufactured overseas don’t always make it stateside. Moreover, one of the vehicles is a concept we’ve been keeping tabs on, and it seems that a driving range has finally been released, along with other details that demonstrate Kia Motors already working towards fulfilling their automaker’s “Plan S” Strategy.

The Plan S Strategy was launched earlier this year (2020), and highlighted multiple goals for Kia Motors over the next 5 years. A two-track plan, the focus is split between electric vehicles (EVs) and self-driving vehicle technology; and developing personal mobility solutions for consumers. The former begins with 11 new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025, with the first dedicated EV to be launched in 2021. With the recent announcement from Kia Motors, we now know that two EVs are set for launch, with the first being a plug-in hybrid, possibly a crossover. The second is the Kia Futuron.
