The Multifaceted Jeep Cherokee

Every manufacturer offers a midsize SUV nowadays, but few have strong off-road chops. That’s where the Jeep Cherokee steps into the light. As one of the six utility vehicles offered by the brand, the Cherokee offers robust features and plenty of capability. A distinct model that revolutionized the industry in 1984, the Jeep Cherokee remains one of the most impressive and capable models in its segment. Besides its versatility and capability, here are a few other reasons to love the 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

Engine Choices

Prospective Buyers can choose between three different engine offerings. There’s a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft, a 3.2-liter V6 that generates 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque, and a top-tier (and all-new) 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s rated at 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is rumored to be the future replacement of the existing naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter engine that Jeep is looking to phase out. All engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Off-Road Prowess

Those looking to take their Cherokee off the beaten path can expect a ground clearance that measures 8.7 inches, water fording clearance is 19 inches on every trim, but the Trailhawk (top-tier trim) offers one additional inch and brings the water fording total to 20 inches. Additionally, buyers can enjoy some of the brand’s best 4×4 systems, such as Active Drive I, Active Drive II, and Active Drive Lock, on the 2019 Cherokee. Approach and departure angles help the Cherokee outperform its competitors and gets people places where few crossovers can manage.

Entertainment & Tech

On all six trims of the Cherokee, Jeep offers a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, one USB port, a six-speaker audio system, Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities. Some of the upgrades available on the 2019 model include an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a premium nine-speaker audio system, a WiFi hotspot, satellite radio, HD radio, additional USB ports, and navigation.

Room & Comfort

How much space does the Cherokee offer? Well, with ample space up front, including generous legroom, the Cherokee offers seating for up to five people. Those who opt for a moonroof lose a few inches of headroom, but given the ample space the Cherokee starts with, it’s not really a problem. Cargo space measures 25.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 54.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Advanced Safety Features Available

Jeep claims that the 2019 Cherokee offers buyers with more than 80 standard safety features. Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist all come standard on the Latitude Plus trims and onward. There’s also an available Technology Group package that includes Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop and Go, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.
