Recognition never stops when it comes to the all-new JL generation Jeep Wrangler (introduced back in 2018), but it’s the Wrangler Rubicon that’s starting 2019 with a big win. The off-road experts over at Four Wheeler magazine crowned the 2019 Wrangler Rubicon as the 2019 SUV of the Year. After beating out many other vehicles that traveled over 1,000 miles on gravel, dirt, sand, rock, snow, and mud-covered terrain, the Wrangler Rubicon embodies the Jeep brand tagline as the “most capable SUV ever.”
Durability and performance were the judges’ main concerns when evaluating all competing vehicles. The categories evaluated on every vehicle were as follows: steering feel, ride quality, traction control system, four-wheel-drive system options, each vehicle’s tires, engine performance, suspension, driving visibility, interior amenities, and overall handling over a week of rough testing. Judges also take into account the tire size, travel index, fuel efficiency, and price of the vehicle.
Sean Holman, Group Content Director for the Four Wheeler publication, lauded the Wrangler Rubicon as more than praiseworthy, saying “The Wrangler Rubicon is packed full of innovation and technology, fully modernizing the Jeep experience, yet capability, comfort, and user-friendliness have only been improved upon. This is one of those rare instances where a company got something so right, you can have your cake and eat it too. It is a truly modern interpretation of the Wrangler without any dilution to the formula of what a Jeep should be.”
With the new generation, Jeep Wrangler came vast improvements over its predecessor, including a backup rearview camera, an updated Uconnect infotainment system, with new and improved removable window panels that slide on a track instead of those notoriously unreliable zippers of the past. Best of all, the available Sky One-Touch powertop is really changing the game – it functions like a convertible top that slides back with the push of a button. What’s even better is that the Sky One-Touch powertop can be activated even at speeds reaching 60 miles per hour, something not even the fanciest convertibles can offer.
The brand is proud to continue racking up accolades. In fact, Tim Kuniskis, head of the Jeep brand, recently sat down with the press at the Detroit Auto Show and said the following: “Our all-new Jeep Wrangler has been improved in every way, and we are thrilled the Four Wheeler editors have honored the pillar of our brand with this important award. Jeep Wrangler is the original SUV and has long been the most capable vehicle on the planet. This new Wrangler is completely refired, with more fuel-efficient powertrains, dramatically improved on-road driving dynamics, and an array of advanced technology, connectivity and safety features that make it a pleasure to drive every day — on the road or trail.”
