2017 Ram 2500
Ram trucks are some of the most reliable trucks in the market. Practically owning the road, a Ram 2500 is big enough to tackle heavy-duty jobs and get from point A to point B with a huge load in tow. It’s powerful, has rugged style, and in recent years, Ram has added some very convenient options. Take a look at what makes the Ram 2500 stand out.
Max Towing Capacity
The 2017 Ram 2500 lineup is available with many configurations. Aside from three cab sizes, three truck bed lengths, and the option of a 2x4 or 4x4 drivetrain, there are also a few engines available. The base engine is a 383-horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology. VVT is a process that controls the air/fuel intake and exhaust valves of an engine’s cylinders to optimize power and fuel economy. There is also a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) version of this engine.
The other two engines available are a bit larger. One engine is the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine and the other is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. Known for longevity and power, the Cummins diesel engine is available with two transmission options, and when paired to automatic transmission, it produces 370 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque. Buyers that don’t want a diesel truck but still need some power may want to opt for the the 6.4-liter HEMI engine, which generates 410-horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.
Each engine (excluding the CNG) has their own towing capacity and maximum payload amount. Below are the three main engines, with a different transmission for the Cummins Diesel engine.
Engine: Horsepower / Torque / Max. Towing/ Max. Payload.
5.7-liter HEMI V8: 383 HP / 400 LB-FT / 13,900 lbs. / 3,060 lbs.

The 2017 Ram 2500 is not only rugged, but it’s also well-equipped. A good number of features are standard across the lineup, such as automatic headlamps, fog lamps, and an under-the-hood lamp. Moreover, convenient features across the lineup consist of exterior heated mirrors and the Ram 2500 PickUp box. Only the high-end trims get the little extras like exterior mirrors with a memory function and LED truck bed lighting.
Available with 17-, 18-, or 20-inch wheels, the Ram 2500 has a number of wheel options ranging from steel to painted aluminum with chrome inserts. The tires are Firestone, and a full-spare tire comes with the truck. Buyers can choose from about 30 colors to give their Ram 2500 truck some personal style.
The standard seating trim in the Ram 2500 is cloth, but depending on the model, seating may be trimmed in leather. Heated seats are available from the 2500 Lone Star and other upper-level trims. Other seating luxuries, such as second-row heated seats and ventilated front seats start with the 2500 Laramie trim. To change up seating arrangements, all 2017 Ram 2500 trucks have a 40/20/40 split bench seat and 60/40 rear folding seat.
These heavy-duty trucks aren’t just about the seating though, they are about hauling and storing cargo.
